Hello,
I know there's a fucking coder in everyone of you, so we may use this place to discuss anything linked with creating games, especially programming, as that's the core and the foundation of a game.
Let us start off with the basic questions:
1] Can you do any neatâ„¢ stuff like programming, animation, making 3D-models, recording sounds, making music, creating textures, building scenes, or any other related stuff?
2] If you use a programming language, which one is it, and why do you use it?
3] Are you completely confused by all the stuff above?
(If so, stop reading and start googleing)
To answer my own questions:
I can make 3D models in a simple modeling application called Wings3d, I can't record sound or music, or make animations, I can create intermediate textures in Photoshop, I'm really good at making scenes (Did it for several mods in several games, people always acted amazed), oh, and I'm a starter in C++ and UnrealScript (Both are very similar).
Currently, I make most use of UnrealScript, as I can use it in the Unreal Development Kit (UDK) for fast and direct development.
I do C++ not as often as I want, but I do it.
My sources of learning the stuff above:
Photoshop: I never took a class or watched a tutorial, I just started and did stuff, today, I don't know anymore how I managed to do that. I miss the knowledge of some functions though, and I might do stuff horribly complicated, but I'm getting better every day.
www.3dbuzz.com
is a universal source for video tutorials on anything related with game making. Animation, 3d modeling, C++ and C# programming, and the usage of the Unreal and the Unity game engine are detailly featured here. If you want to start a life as a game developer, do it here.
www.thenewboston.com
Tutorials on many programming languages I don't care about, and also awesome stuff about the UDK and C++, also a great place to get started in everything.
www.udk.com
The Unreal Development Kit website. I use the UDK, it's freaking awesome, and it's free, but look it up yourself. Also includes a huge documentation of every feature in the UDK.
www.cgtextures.com
A great source for totally free textures (free also for commercial use), in high resolution and a nicely sorted system.
Whoa, got a bit huge, as always when I type a thread, excuse that, but I got this and so much more to say about this topic! I hope some people here might feel the same, so I don't need to talk only to myself.
Also, feel free to give a fuck about my question formula and to just reply anything topic related.
